William ‘Bill’ Baker was the husband of Verna Baker, the father of Alma Baker Spier and the grandfather of Mary Anne Spier. He is a member of the Spier/Schafer Family. He lived with Verna on a farm in Maynard, Iowa.
History[]
Bill lived at Box 127, Old County Road, Maynard, Iowa. His home sits in the middle of a huge field of corn.
Mary Anne spent her first birthday with him and stayed until she was eighteen months old. He had fought with Richard Spier for custody but the dispute was eventually resolved. He hasn't spoken to Richard for quiet a while. He gave Alma a very happy childhood.
He died sometime before chapter nine in Mary Anne and the Secret in the Attic, due to a coronary.
In Mary Anne's Book, Verna says that he used to think that he lived in the most beautiful place on the face of earth. He had a positive attitude and something good to say about everything and everybody. Bill used to say "What you see is what you get" all the time and loved harvest time.
