The California Diaries collection is a spin-off of the original The Baby-Sitters Club series revolving around Dawn Schafer and her friends in Palo City, California.

Students at Vista Private School are asked to keep a diary, in whatever form they choose and these books contain those diaries. This series deals with slightly darker and more mature themes than the original BSC series including death and anorexia.
1997 ad for the first two books
Many changes were introduced from the original series. Jill Henderson is no longer part of Dawn's friend group and includes two new characters introduced into the series Ducky McCrae and Amalia Vargas. Most of Dawn and Sunny's vegetarianism and health conscious decisions have been phased out as well.
