Maureen and Ed originally hear about him from Stacey's uncle Eric on a TV show. Maureen read two articles about him in a medical journal and Profiles Magazie did a long interview with him. He's been getting a lot of attention lately. Stacey McGill does not wish to see him but goes anyway because her parents made the appointment.
Dr. Barnes did not come recommended by Dr. Johanssen, who calls him a quack. She said that he won't change her insulin and only slightly modify her diet. "What he'll most likely do is recommend all sorts of expensive programs and therapies designed to make your life as positive and fulfilling and healthy as possible. He'll tell your parents that this will enable you to rid your body of the disease." This includes a psychologist, psychiatrist, exercise program, recreational therapy, and might recommend changing schools for a individualized instruction.
His testing before you could see him includes: running on a treadmill, sit-ups and push-ups, an IQ test, blood drawn, build a tower of blocks, draw a picture of her family, and make up stories about inkblots. His tests are expensive over the next couple of days. It turns out Maureen and Ed didn't like him anyway.
