Everyone is so happy that Danielle Roberts is feeling good these days. Jessi knows that Danielle, who is battling leukemia, has gone through some really tough times. So she can understand how Danielle's parents are now allowing Danielle to do anything she wants.
But after a few wild sitting jobs, Jessi and the BSC realize that Danielle is out of control — Rollerblading through the house, sledding down the basement stairs. Jessi doesn't want to break Danielle's spirit. But she doesn't want anything to happen to her, either. Is it time for the BSC to step in?
Summary[]
Danielle's leukemia is in remission and her parents are letting her do anything she wants. After a few incidents, Kristy talks to Mrs. Roberts about Danielle's behavior, but Mrs. Roberts doesn't think it's a big deal. After Danielle and her friends end up in a minor car accident, the Robertses realize the BSC was right.
Subplot[]
After eavesdropping on Aunt Cecelia, Jessi and Becca think she’s getting married again.
In chapter 5, Mary Anne ends up babysitting for four kids by herself (Danielle, Greg, Charlotte, and Haley). Kristy and Jessi also end up babysitting at least four kids without a second sitter. In the previous book, the club made an official rule about always using two sitters for four or more kids.
Ann M. Martin's Dear Reader Letter[]
Dear Reader,
Lots of stories in the Baby-sitters Club series have come about because readers have asked for them. That's how Mary Anne and the Memory Garden; Stacey McGill, Super Sitter; and many others came about. But my editor and I got the most letters asking for another story about Danielle Roberts, the character who was introduced in Jessi's Wish, #48. Many of the kids who wrote those letters wanted to know how Danielle was doing. So I decided to write a story about Danielle in remission. I had a lot of fun thinking up the mischief that Danielle and her friends get into. But the idea for Danielle taking the car came from something I had seen on the news about a little boy who tried to drive his family's car across town. Danielle is a great character and I enjoy writing about her. Perhaps we will revisit Danielle in yet another book some day.
