He admitted to having a crush on her. Ricky had married her on the playground at school. In the book before they got married, they had a fight about Ricky giving Pamela Harding a nice present rather than a mean one for her birthday. He kissed Karen on the cheek.

- On the cover Karen is wearing her blue glasses which is supposed to be her reading glasses. Her pink ones are her regular use glasses. Oddly, this went uncorrected in the 2024 reprint.
- Emily Michelle could say Ronald McDonald clearly in this book, when she has a language delay in Claudia and the Great Search. This was not fixed on the 2024 reprint either.
