The Baby-Sitters Club Wiki

The Kishi Family is a family that resides in Stoneybrook, Connecticut. They live at 58 Bradford Court.

General[]

Both Mr. and Mrs. Kishi left Japan for the U.S. when they were very young. They are very conservative and love both of their daughters Claudia and Janine equally. Both artistic talent and good grades are given equal weight.

In Boy-Crazy Stacey the family goes to New Hampshire on summer vacation. Claudia baby-sat while there and learned how to throw a pot. The family was hoping that it would help Mimi being in fresh air since having her stroke.

In Claudia Gets Her Guy, it's mentioned that she had aunts, one of which sent her a frilly pink dress. It's likely that her dad has some sisters, since Peaches is the only aunt on her mother's side. Stacey and Mary Anne mentioned that Claudia was visiting family in New Jersey in Stacey and the Boyfriend Trap and Stacey vs. Claudia.

They host Thanksgiving in Claudia and the Friendship Feud.

In Claudia and the Disaster Date and Claudia and the Recipe for Danger, it's mentioned that they have a large gas grill that they'll set up in the backyard.

Claudia hosts an art class for the kids in the basement in Claudia and the Sad Good-bye.

The family goes to Monhegan in Everything Changes to become more relaxed, intending to stay away from electronics and back to nature. Janine ends up bringing her labtop. Mr. Kishi sneaks to watch TV at the neighbors and Mrs. Kishi ends up reading trashy romance novels (when she was trying not to). Only Claudia ends up not breaking the rules they set up.

In Mary Anne and Too Many Boys, the family goes to Vermont on their summer vacation to relax in the mountains.

Claudia notes that her parents raised her and Janine to be proud of their heritage in Aloha, Baby-sitters!.

Extended Family[]

House[]

The Hobarts and the Perkins Family live across the street. The Goldman Family lived next door. The Braddocks live nearby them for Mrs. Braddock to walk to their house.

Their basement is finished, carpeted and heated in Claudia and the Sad Good-bye. It's also mentioned that there's back basement steps to the side yard, with heavy double doors at the top. There's a big utility table that the art class uses.

The house includes a den where a locked box that includes emergency cash is hidden in the bottom of a desk, which Claudia knows about. The den has an arm chair and bookshelves. The bookshelves have the photo albums on them in Claudia and the Great Search. There's a desk that Rioko and John share with personal stuff including old report cards.

Claudia and Janine's rooms are upstairs and at one point, Claudia turned the windowless bathroom she shares with Janine into a darkroom in Claudia and the Clue in the Photograph.

There's a flower garden in the backyard as mentioned in Claudia and Mean Janine

There's an attached garage mentioned in Claudia and the Genius of Elm Street, Claudia hosts her art gallery in here.

Household Customs & Rules[]

  • When Janine and Claudia were younger, their parents used to put colored stars on a chart for every test score over 90: pink stars for Claudia and yellow stars for Janine. They stopped using the stickers when the yellow stars ran out and the pink box hadn't been opened.
  • No junk food.
  • No late night pizza trips as of Claudia and Crazy Peaches.
  • Someone must help Claudia with her homework every night.
