Laurence Channing is the main culprit behind Kristy and the Mystery Train, which is his only appearance in the series.

Biography[]

Laurence once wrote a screen play for a class that Ronald Pierce was teaching. Ronald based the play on his script and it was reworked to be Night Train to Charleston. Laurence was furious when he found out. He wanted full credit for the screenplay that Ronald wrote. Ronald paid him the first time, he used it to blackmail him into paying him more.  He began to make threats. He accused Ronald of being in a conspiracy with everyone on the film to deprive him of the fame and money he deserved.

Mr. Channing has made a full confession. He knew more than enough about special effects and makeup to disguise himself and sneak on board the train. He'd traveled the route dozens of times before in recent months, always in disguise so no one would recognize him. But the police have found ticket stubs, among other things, in his apartment. He planned everything. Sent the notes, fiddled with the train controls so that it almost jumped the track, planted smoke bombs in the vents.

He thought Jane Atlantic, the gossip columnist on the train, would see the 'murder' and investigate. Her big scoop would be about how Ronald Pierce had stolen the screenplay and had murdered the real author. He was going to let Ronald suffer through an arrest and trial, then come back after the sentencing and claim that he'd had amnesia from the fall. All along, he thought Ms. Atlantic had seen what happened. He'd mistaken, Stacey McGill, for her.

He had tried to hold Ronald’s son, Daniel, whom Kristy Thomas was baby-sitting hostage as leverage. Kristy locks herself and Daniel in the bathroom to get away from them.

Laurence was last seen being held for psychiatric observation and arrested.
