Miss Miriam Ellway is an employee at the Stoneybrook Public Library.

Biography[]

Miss Miriam Ellway worked in the children's section of the library until Claudia and the Disaster Date. She got promoted leaving Dolores Feld to hire Claudia Kishi and Erica Blumberg as pages until her role could be filled.

In Mary Anne and the Library Mystery, she helped with the readathon. It's also revealed that her grandfather, Theodore Ellway, was once wealthy he made a fortune building houses. Over time the family lost money and had to sell off some of the land with strings attached. At the same time they donated the land to the town of Stoneybrook that the library was built on. There is a clause that if the library was torn down or destroyed the land would go back to the family. This lead to Miss Ellway to become a suspect as the book burner but Mary Anne Spier saw her help put out a fire.

  • In Mary Anne and the Library Mystery she is described as mean and "no spring chicken" but Mary Anne ends up liking her anyway.
  • Her brother Theodore owns a hardware store in downtown Stoneybrook, called Ted's Tools. She has a nephew (Theodore the fourth) and a niece named Rosa. Rosa owns a kennel called Ellway's Kennel is described as really nice by Shannon Kilbourne. Theodore the fourth lives in an even ritzier area then Watson's neighborhood. The gardener describes him as really nice and his wife is the wealthy one that helps the gardener.
