Mr. Howard is a student teacher for Ms. Colman who is only seen in Karen's School.
Biography[]
Mr. Howard is a student teacher in Ms. Colman's Class. He starts by watching Ms. Colman and then teaches little by little each week. Karen Brewer notes that he has a crooked front tooth and his hair is slicked back with tonic. Karen doesn't like him, however Nancy Dawes develops a crush on him. Nancy writes him a poem that Hannie Papadakis leaves on his desk.
Later in the book, he created Chocolate Factory Day, after the unit on the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. This is a special program for his last day of student teaching. Karen accuses him of not listening to her ideas for the event. She ends up calling him smelly Mr. Howard and dislikes him after he calls her noisy. This causes her to strike and for Karen to get in a fight with Nancy.
By the end of the book, he sits down with Karen to give each other a chance. They make a compromise to listen to each other and get along for his remaining time at Stoneybrook Academy.
