Run for Your Money is a charity event that was the subplot in Dawn's Big Move. It is only seen in this book.

The event is a joint fund-raising event by the Chamber of Commerce and Lawrenceville. Anyone can form a team: coworkers, families, friends—and there are all kinds of crazy events. A fee is needed to enter and the proceeds go to charities. Stonybrook's donating to an organization for the homeless and Lawrenceville chose a literacy program.

Suggestions for events were taken and published in the Stoneybrook News.

The events were held at Stoneybrook High School's playing field.

It was divided into two parts. The first half consisted of more standard events, the second half of the weird ones. Many events ran at the same time with referees for each one. Teach team scored two points for a win, one for a tie, and one for a loss. The refs kept scorecards and the runners circulated the field collecting the cards to bring to the master scorekeeper.

Some highlights include: The Barretts won a game of leap frog, but Buddy hit his head on a goalpost while dancing around in triumph. One of the Pike teams won at water balloon hot potato, after spraying the referee. The Arnolds lost the underwear race, mostly because they were laughing too hard; and Charlotte’s dog, Carrot, escaped from a pet race to chase after a squirrel.

In the end Stoneybrook wins with 185 points and Lawrenceville won 182. The money went to the Stoneybrook Housing Council.

  • The event helps push Dawn Schafer into deciding to go back to California for six months. She sees different families spending time together making her miss her brother and dad. Dawn leaves at the end of the book.
