Stacey has been hired for a week-long baby-sitting job in New York City! Everything would be perfect if only her boyfriend Robert weren't acting so strangely. He's never at the places he says he'll be. Plus, he's been doing a lot of things without her. Stacey is becoming suspicious. Could Robert be seeing another girl?
Stacey leaves for NYC feeling uneasy about her relationship with Robert. And while baby-sitting in the city is a blast, Stacey has a lot of thinking to do. Is this the end of Stacey + Robert?
Main Plot[]
Stacey leaves Stoneybrook for a weeklong sitting job in New York, with a nagging feeling in the back of her mind that Robert is dating someone else. Is it possible that he could be cheating Stacey? Or is she mistaken? The biggest question is will Stacey and Robert be together forever, or are they simply not meant to be together.
Subplot[]
Kristy is going on vacation, and she reluctantly lets Abby take over as club president while she’s gone (her first choice for the substitute president was Mary Anne). Abby proposes several changes to the club. She organizes a fundraiser to raise money for a Mexican orphanage. Abby later admits she could learn a thing or two from Kristy.
In Stacey and the Cheerleaders Stacey said Robert doesn't like movies like Mall Warriors III but in this book she says he likes them and watches them with Pete Black.
Ann M. Martin's Dear Reader Letter[]
Dear Reader,
In Stacey’s Broken Heart, Stacey is sad about ending her relationship with Robert, but she knows it’s for the best, that she has made the right decision. While it wasn’t easy for me to write about Stacey’s breakup, I always love to write about New York City. I’ve lived in New York at least part-time since 1979, and when I was a kid, my family lived close enough to the city so that we could visit often.
Many of the places I mention when I write about New York are real. For instance, Stacey’s father now lives on East 65th Street. Years ago I lived there, too, with my cat Mouse. Most of the stores are real, such as Bloomingdale’s and F.A.O. Schwarz. Many of the restaurants are real, too — The Hard Rock Cafe, Tavern on the Green, Sign of the Dove, and the Oyster Bar. I’m glad Stacey still visits New York from time to time, because then I get to write about it. I hope you like reading about New York. Maybe you’ll get to visit sometime!
Trivia[]
Kristy is absent due to being in Hawaii with her family.
