Stacey McGill, Super Sitter is the 94th book in The Baby-Sitters Club series by Ann M. Martin.
Back Cover Summary[]
Sitting for the Cheplins seems like a dream job to Stacey. The pay is great. One of the kids is diabetic and needs Stacey's help. And even though Mrs. Cheplin keeps giving her lists of things to do, Stacey can leap tall tasks in a single bound. As long as she's being paid so much, she doesn't mind peeling potatoes or licking stamps.
There's only one hitch: Being a super sitter takes up a lot of time and energy. Because of the Cheplins, Stacey is late for BSC meetings and has to bail out on plans with her mother, her boyfriend Robert, and her best friend, Claudia.
Stacey's going to make a small fortune as a super sitter. But is it worth it?
Main Plot[]
Robert’s birthday is coming up, and Stacey wants to take him to a Broadway play (because he’s not a big fan of New York City; she hopes she can change that). A new client calls needing a steady sitter; Stacey gets the job. In addition to babysitting, she has to do all of Ms. Cheplin’s housework.
Subplot[]
Logan asks for Kristy’s help in picking a Valentine’s Day ring for Mary Anne. Jessi is babysitting for Becca and Charlotte the same day; she takes them to the Merry-Go-Round. Becca and Charlotte see Logan and Kristy; since they don’t know about the ring plan, they assume Logan is cheating on Mary Anne.

Continuity and Inconsistencies[]
Continuity
- Jessi and Quint agree to be just friends and not date was brought up in chapter 6, which first happened in Jessi and the Jewel Thieves.
Inconsistencies
- On page 119, Becca says she and Vanessa saw Logan with Kristy (when Kristy was helping Logan decide which ring to buy for Mary Anne for Valentine's Day). But it was really Becca and Charlotte who saw them together.
- At the end of Chapter 1, Stacey mentions telling Mary Anne that she wants as many jobs as possible, and says Mary Anne is in charge of assigning the jobs. The jobs that come in during a meeting are not assigned by Mary Anne or anyone else, they are simply given out to whoever is available and divided up fairly. There have been several arguments about just taking jobs without sharing to everyone else. And as it turned out, of course, she didn't even do that. It must have been a Tuesday and then she brought it up at the next day, Wednesday's meeting. Still, it's an inconsistent thing to say because Mary Anne doesn't assign the jobs.
Ann M. Martin's Dear Reader Letter[]
Dear Reader,
Over the years I’ve heard from lots of BSC fans – both through the mail and online – about problems they’ve had with their own baby-sitting jobs. Many girls have asked for advice about what to do when they’re expected to perform household chores in addition to sitting, and they’re being paid only for sitting. That sparked the idea for Stacey McGill, Super Sitter. In Stacey’s case, she knew what she was getting into, but her job quickly got out of hand!
Remember that any time you’re baby-sitting, you are responsible for leaving the house as neat as it was when you arrived. If you’ve fed the kids a meal, make sure you tidy up after them. But if you’re asked to do extra chores or errands, you should be paid for it. Talk things over ahead of time with the client. One other tip for you super sitters – don’t be afraid to talk about problems with your clients. They’ll appreciate your honesty, and recognize you as a responsible sitter.
Trivia[]
- This is the first time that Stacey has a client that is a fellow diabetic.
- In chapter 11, Dana’s blood sugar is dangerously low (severe hypoglycemia). A number is never mentioned. According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), hypoglycemia is when a person’s blood sugar is lower than 70 mg/dL, and severe hypoglycemia is when a person’s blood sugar is at or below 54 mg/dL.
- Robert wouldn't live in the city if he had the choice.
- Stacey thinks being a model would be boring. She modeled in Stacey and the Fashion Victim and during Stacey's Big Break.
- Robert and Stacey are doing computer science homework on page 8.
- Stacey is in honors math at school.
- Stacey and Robert go on a double date with Mary Anne and Logan; they go bowling.
- Dana uses her diabetes to get what she wants.
- Backward Bunny is a made up book that Stacey reads to Adam.
- Stacey wants to start saving for a hot red convertible.
- Stacey slept for twelve hours in this book.
- Mary Anne says her parents wouldn’t have let her take the Cheplin job because it was a big time commitment. This is the second time it’s mentioned Mary Anne has babysitting restrictions. The first time was in Mary Anne Saves the Day when Mary Anne wants Richard to extend her babysitting hours (which he finally does) so she can sit until ten p.m. like the rest of her friends.
- Stacey says that Robert’s birthday is next month; since this book takes place in February, Robert’s birthday is in March.
- Kristy didn't want Stacey to take the Cheplin job, and she told Stacey to quit when it got to be too much for her.
